How to Join our Club

The 4-H year tends to run from late August to June, with the Alameda County Fair extending that to early July if your child enters exhibits or works the Cake Booth. East Hills 4-H has an Open House at the end of August which is open to the public and is the perfect way to come and meet us and see if our club is the right fit for you and your child.

If you can’t make the Open House, or are finding us later in the fall, please feel free to email us and inquire about joining. Since there are dues collected and other requirements, most families tend to join in August and September, but it never hurts to email us to see how we can accommodate you. You can email Kristine Konrad at info@EastHills4H.org

You are also welcome to attend our club meetings at any time of the year, in which club business is discussed, and are held the 2nd Monday of the month from 1:00-3:00 at Creekside Community Church at 951 MacArthur Blvd in San Leandro (off Hwy 580). If you email us before attending, we can look for you and give you a mini-tour.

There are also many other activities, such as Presentation Day (a public speaking competition) and field days (in which members display and demonstrate on a specific topic, such as gardening, small animals, etc.) There are social activities, such as Skate Night at Halloween and movie and game nights. There is also a countywide 4-H sleepover summer camp, county and state fair activities, leadership conferences and much more.

There is an emphasis in 4-H on public speaking, leadership, and community service. Consequently, there are many opportunities for all of them. For example, for the holidays, we have various community service opportunities – a toy drive for Shriners Hospital, Christmas caroling, and a Christmas party for underprivileged kids among others. Some other events have been volunteering at the Alameda County Food Bank and working with the Blue Star Moms.

These are just some of the activities available. As you can see, there is a lot to do, a lot to learn, and a lot of fun to have.

If you would like more information about 4-H, our club, the projects, or the activities, please let me know. You can email Kris at info@EastHills4H.org
