4-H National Youth Science Day

November 7, 2017 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

National Youth Science Day is coming up soon!

This year’s 2017 National Science Challenge – the Incredible Wearables kit – is a fun way for kids to build wearable fitness trackers.  Developed by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, attendees will use a micro-processor, a tilt sensor and a pulse oximeter to design a prototype that tracks the fitness of the wearer.  Challenging but do-able, designing this prototype is a fantastic introduction to wearable technology, which involves taking multiple biological signals and converting those signals to data that can then be analyzed. More information here: https://4-h.org/parents/national-youth-science-day/

We need facilitators! We would like to have 4-8 older 4-H members to help plan and run the event. Please email Kris at info@EastHills4H.org if you are interested in serving on this county committee. There will be one meeting late October to go over the kit, program the microprocessors, choose the challenges we will do at the event, and plan the logistics. No programming expertise required, just a willingness to learn the kit components and to work with younger members.

Remember, this is open to all 4-H members and the public, so please share this with anyone who might be interested.

Pre-registration is highly recommended (supplies are limited), and a link will be posted very soon.

Date: Tuesday, November 7th, from 6:30 – 9 pm.
Location: Canyon Middle School Cafeteria, Castro Valley (address?)
Age: Parents should use their judgment to decide if their children will be able to do and benefit from this activity.
